Our Seafood Festival got off to a great start on Thursday 9th July with a wonderful parade - despite the rain. The floats were brilliant showing creativity, community effort, and involvement at its best – A very big thanks to all of you and especially Red Moon Theatre and the group of over 40 children who took part in the 4 day workshop prior to the festival, who created a wonderful spectacle of colour! Thanks to Fr Denis Doyle, our regular M.C. who got the proceedings off to a lively start, giving great encouragement to all the participants, not to mention Baz and the crew of Maarteen Luther with the unforgettable Jimmy who entertained us with his singing on the Cross.

Hope you liked the flags flying on the Cross and outside the Stella Maris Centre – these were made by volunteers over 12 weeks and represent various aspects of our village life. The programmed events were all a great success – The Bridge day was a great success with over 70 players. Unfortunately the Shore Angling was postponed but keep your eye on this space for re-scheduled time.

The Fish Friday and Taste of Kilmore events were complete sell outs and proved to be the best value all round - we sold kilos of fish and a huge thanks to whole team at the Taste of Kilmore Quay - Jim Ahern, Debbie Newport and Anne Kehoe as Chefs, and Mike Fox, Sommelier for a superb tasting and information of wines from around the globe. Jim Hurley had a great troop of people rambling on the Burrow walk who were very keen to finish the tour despite the rain.

Saturday’s Teddy Bears Picnic and Fun Day on the beach attracted big numbers despite the inclement weather and a big thanks to Alan Ennis and his team, Tony and Cathy from South East Radio who made the day and created a great atmosphere around the village. There were plenty of activities and stalls to suit everyone and the day finished with a most interesting talk given by Billy Colfer on Ballyteige Bay.

Sunday was a complete success with thousands of people descending on the village for the Strongman, Ceili Mor, Hip Hop and Line Dancing - not to mention the Stalls. Congratulations to all the contestants who took part in "Kilmore's Got Talent" - it was a fantastic final night in the Hotel Saltees and well done to Katie Martin who stole the show. We wish you every success as a singer.

Many thanks go to all those who put in many long hours making the festival a reality, organising events, cooking the fish and serving delicious seafood platters in the Stella Maris Centre. Thanks also to the whole community for their support and their patience in dealing with the thousands of people who descended on our village over the four days. A HUGE thanks to all who helped in any way. Well done to everyone!!!
